Travel Channel New Zealand and Auckland Museum have teamed up for an underworld adventure to launch Descending, a stunning new Travel Channel series premiering on SKY 025 from Wednesday, 21st August at 8.30pm.
Descending, hosted by Kiwi adventurer Ellis Emmett and his Canadian cohort Scott Wilson, takes viewers on a thrilling adventure into the depths of our world to see places and creatures few of us ever will. Each episode features a new setting, stunning environments and fascinating cultures from New Zealand’s own backyard to some of the planet’s most remote destinations including Djibouti, Sudan, Vancouver Island, Caribbean, Grenada, South Africa, Iceland and the Solomon Islands.
Today Descending launches exclusively to media and selected guests from the Auckland Museum’s stunning auditorium, while further public screenings will take place later in the week (19th & 20 July) as part of the ‘Moana – My Ocean’ school holiday programme. These events will feature Descending’s ‘Poor Knights’ episode, followed by question and answer sessions with Ellis Emmett himself. Severine Hannam from Auckland Museum’s Collections Team will accompany Ellis and share specimens relating to the series.
“Descending and ‘Moana – My Ocean’ are truly bonded by their ventures into unknown worlds,” says Ellis. “Three quarters of our planet is water, yet we know more about outer space than we do about the ocean.”
“When we made Descending we looked beyond the seven continents to the rest of the map. We dived our oceans, lakes and rivers, discovered stories of human triumph and tragedy associated with the water and saw with our own eyes the health of our water planet,” he adds.
“We are thrilled to share our adventures in this stunning television series launching on Travel Channel New Zealand (SKY 025) this August. It’s been aptly-described as ‘an aquatic adventure series for a new generation’ and with the state-of-the art digital camera technology our producers have engaged to film this series, it does not fail to deliver.”
