Commissioned by National Geographic Channels International, Over the Horizon (internationally broadcast as My Pacific Quest) follows adventurer Ellis Emmett on an incredible sea voyage to some of the most remote places on Earth.
“We are all thrilled by this recognition,” said Jennifer Howe, Series Producer. “Our small team truly committed themselves to this project. We didn’t just fly in and out, we were with Ellis for every nautical mile of his year-long journey. So, to be recognized by the Academy, in this particular category, is incredibly gratifying.”
Shot in stunning 6K by cinematographer Andre Dupuis, the series previously earned a 2018 Emmy® nomination for Outstanding Camerawork.
Filming took place from atop the newly formed volcanic island in Tonga recently featured in the news, to the depths of the still-radioactive Bikini Atoll lagoon, to the shores of the tiny nation of Kiribati that is being swallowed by the sea because of climate change.
“Breakthrough Entertainment is proud to have been a partner on this incredible series Over The Horizon,” said Ira Levy, Executive Producer and President, Breakthrough Entertainment. “We are truly honoured to be nominated for a CSA in the ‘Rob Stewart Award for Best Science or Nature Program or Series’ category. Echo Bay Media Inc., with the genius of director/cinematographer Andre Dupuis at the helm, has captured the hearts and souls of audiences in Canada and around the world with this amazing journey of Ellis Emmett.”
The Rob Stewart Award for Best Science or Nature Documentary Program or Series is presented annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television to the year’s most exceptional science or nature documentary entered in the Canadian Screen Awards. The recipient also receives a $25,000 prize. The award is named in honour of the late filmmaker Rob Stewart whose inspiring work focused on the importance and urgency of preserving the natural environment.
Over the Horizon (My Pacific Quest) will be re-broadcast in Canada on BC’s Knowledge Network starting February 22nd 2019.
