For advise on where dads might want to go this Father’s Day, I turned to Ellis Emmett, Kiwi adventurer and host of the fabulous underwater show ‘Descending’ now screening on the Travel Channel.

Soooooo many places already on the bucket-list and things that I plan on doing one day. Here’s a couple:
I want to sea kayak the length of Norway starting up the top on the border of Russia, walk a major section of the Great Wall of China, around 4500km, fly deep into the heart of Papua New Guinea and build a raft out of what the jungle has to offer and float my way down the Sepik River to the sea, about 1000km, sail from mainland New Zealand across to the Chatham Islands, on to Pitcairn Island and then zig-zag through the islands of the central Pacific. So much to do and only one lifetime to do it in.

We know more about the moon’s surface than we do about what lurks beneath the sea. Diver Scott Wilson has made it his life’s mission to uncover as much as he can from the depths of the ocean and he will co-host Travel Channel’s newest show – Descending (9pm, Thursdays, on Travel Channel) tonight.
Watch as an expert dive team travels to all seven continents and stops at places such as the paradise waters of the Caribbean and Solomon Islands.
When you think of a travel channel programme, exotic destinations generally come to mind. Now previously uncharted “travel” territory has become familiar terrain for hosts Scott Wilson and Ellis Emmett as well as cinematographer and director Andre Dupuis.

1. What was your favourite dive site from this episode?
“Diving the wreck of the Umbria, an Italian steamer sunk off Port Sudan during World War Il, was probably one of the highlights of the Red Sea for me.”
“I will never forget swimming down one of the long corridors inside the wreck with the shafts of brilliant light piecing through the portholes, dancing in time to the movement of the water above.”

In Descending, adventurer Ellis Emmett travels across the world in search of places and creatures that few people have ever seen.
A new series entitle Descending is to be broadcast in more that 130 countries in 22 languages worldwide – starting this Wednesday 21 August on South Africa, Dstv Travel Channel 179 at 8pm.
In the 13 part series of 60 minutes each, the presenters and film crew set out to not just dive our oceans, lakes and rivers, but to discover the stories of human triumph and tragedy associated with the water, and see with their own eyes the health of our water planet.
This global adventure, hosted by Scott Wilson and Ellis Emmett, together with cinematographer Andre Dupuis, pushes the boundaries of existing digital camera technology to capture some of the most incredible underwater footage ever created.
