Nearly three quarters of our planet is water. No matter how tall the highest peak, how vast the broadest desert or how inhospitable the polar caps – it’s all insignificant compared to what lies beneath the waves. DESCENDING is a documentary series that will take viewers on a thrilling adventure into the depths of our world to see places and creatures few of us ever will.
Ellis along with long-time friend, Ruurd van der Wel, and a small international team of close friends and colleagues, sail a 43ft Beneteau yacht (Miro) from New Zealand to the Kingdom of Tonga, return – a voyage of around 6,000 km.
‘We ended up in the roughest part of the river. It was running about 120 cumecs. Normally it would be around 12 to 15 cumecs at this time of year, so this was about 10 times the volume, probably even more where we were as the gauge is at the head of the river.’

Episode 13 ‘The Underworld’ (Indonesia & Vanuatu) was screened to a select group of super-fans at the same time as the final episode aired on the Outdoor Life Network in Canada. A great way to farewell the final episode and celebrate a fantastic end to Descending Season 1.

A brand new Canadian based underwater TV series is descending to new heights thanks in part to its use of cutting edge video cameras. The Outdoor Life Network (OLN) has begun airing Descending, a scuba adventure TV series that uses the new Red One digital video camera to get hyper-real footage from the bottom of Lake Ontario to the wild waters of New Zealand.
